The Tide Within Us

This resource grew from listening to young people, their drawings, stories,
and quiet truths across our islands.

Part of Viluntheri Ekuverin / Resilient Friends, these cards help us notice
the tides of emotion within us and the tools we can use to stay steady.
Like the five in Children of the Atolls / Atholhuge Dharin, we already hold
what we need, within us, and around us.

Before you begin, take a slow breath. Think of these cards as small ripples,
each one leading to another. Remember even the smallest ripple can grow,
and the gentlest of the waves can shape a shore.

The Evidence & the Voices That Shaped It

Young people (10-14 years) told us:

  • Exams, bullying and “When people don’t listen.” It really impacts them.
  • They find comfort in drawing, reading, playing a sport, being in nature, having a pet and in their family.
  • Make it about “someone like me, about our island, our life.”
  • “Make it short and simple and something I can keep.”

Evidence based in Social
Emotional Learning shows
young people flourish when
they build:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Responsible decision-making.

These currents guide Hiyala, Lily, Zain, Myra, and Bilal and now, you.
