For Educators & Facilitators

Listening to the Tides

This resource is designed for use with young people aged 10–14. It can travel anywhere, wherever young people need space to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

It is less about teaching and more about creating space: helping young people find their own rhythm, name what they feel, and begin to steer their tides of change.

Where to use these cards

  • Classrooms and circle-time activities
  • Youth and wellbeing sessions
  • Peer support
  • Homes and community programmes

There is no set order. Begin where the tide feels strongest: a feeling, a story, or a question. Each card invites small acts of noticing, grounding, creating, or connecting.

Facilitation tips

  • Keep sessions short (10–20 minutes) and use visuals or music when possible.
  • Invite reflection before advice. Let silence do some of the work.
  • Encourage multiple modes of expression: drawing, writing, voice notes, or shared reflection.
  • Model self-compassion: “It’s okay to have many feelings; they’re all signals or messages, not mistakes.”
  • Revisit the same card over time to notice and show change and growth.
  • Link activities to daily life: school, friendships, home, nature.
  • When emotions rise, return to breath, sound, or rhythm, the calm anchors of our ocean stories.
